The course is intended as an English-language introduction to the historiography and theory of history in the 19th and 20th centuries.

1. 10 February 2025: Introduction
2. 17 February 2025: Far antecedents: the beginnings of history (up to the 18th century)
3. 24 February 2025: Close antecedents: history established (19th century) – historicism and positivism
4. 3 March 2025:
Writing Romantic history, the unification of scientific history, Geistesgeschichte
5. 10 March 2025: The beginnings of social and cultural history
6. 17 March 2025: The Annales school under the leadership of the second generation
7. 24 March 2025: Historical demography, the history of family and houshold
8. 1 April 2025: Marxist history
9. 7 April 2025: Psychohistory
10. 14 April 2025: History centered on culture
11. 28 April 2025: The linguistic turn
12. 5 May 2025: Writing history at the end of the 20th century
13. 12 May 2025: The contextual turn. Summary
Course
requirements:
Oral examination about the content of the course at the end of the course. Two questions from what has been discussed and one more question from the prescribed reading.
